Hollow

Muramasa Hollow Dome Gillians.pngHollow

Hollow (虚 (ホロウ), horō) are a race of creatures which are born from Human souls who, for various reasons, do not cross over to Soul Society after their death and stay in theHuman World for too long. They are corrupt spirits with supernatural powers that devour the souls of both living and deceased Humans. Hollows settle in Hueco Mundo, but can cross over to the Human World and Soul Society.

Hollows are former Pluses (deceased human souls) that lose their hearts to despair or remain in the real world for too long. Any spirit that is not guided to the Soul Society by a Shinigami via Soul Burial may eventually descend into a Hollow.

Transformation Process

The majority of ghosts peacefully move on to the Soul Society after their deaths. Some, however, stay in the living world to fulfill certain goals, such as looking after a loved one, protecting a particular location, or pursuing a grudge from beyond the grave. However, with only limited abilities to interact with the living, and by definition tied to their goals, many ghosts find they are unable to cope when their loved ones move on or old enemies forget them. At this point, some will become dangerously obsessed with fulfilling those goals, even if the means to fulfill them renders the soul empty: for example, killing anyone who comes near a loved one, in order to keep them from hurting that person. In doing so, the ghost warps into a Hollow and, ironically, often makes the focus of their obsession into their first victim, such as Orihime Inoue's brother, Sora, does. This can be prevented if a Shinigami gives the soul a Soul Burial before it descends into a Hollow.
The process by which a soul becomes a Hollow usually takes months to years to complete, reflected by the length of the soul's Chain of Fate, which resides in the center of their chest. The Chain of Fate slowly corrodes over time, coinciding with the degradation of the soul's ties to the living world. The process can be accelerated under certain conditions, such as being attacked by a Hollow, giving into extreme despair or through the use of certain spiritual powers. When the chain completely decays, they become a Hollow when a hole opens up on their chest, where the chain was attached, signifying that they have lost their heart.

Tendencies

Once a soul becomes a Hollow, it is driven by an eternal and insatiable hunger to devour other souls, living or dead, to fill the void caused by its descent. While their former obsession often becomes their first target, most Hollows will eventually become mindless creatures concerned only with finding the most potent souls to devour. Stronger and more evil Hollows are often able to retain some of their intelligence in Hollow form, making them more dangerous than the average Hollow. While most Hollows are evil, or at the very least mindless, at least a few are not, as is the case with Nel Tuand her Hollow companions. They are also at least partly capable of camaraderie and loyalty, as seen with Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and his companions while they were still Hollows: Grimmjow's subordinates sacrificed parts of their bodies, unasked, for the sake of Grimmjow's growth.

Destruction

Hollows are usually killed by splitting their mask and head in two, but most wounds that would be fatal for a Human will effectively dispatch them. When this is done by a Shinigami's Zanpakutō, the Hollow is not truly killed; its spirit is purified of the sins it committed as a Hollow. This allows the spirit within to enter the Soul Society as a Plus. In cases where a Hollow committed great sins as a mortal, its purification will summon the gates of Hell, through which the soul is dragged to its punishment. When a Hollow is killed by a Quincy, however, it is destroyed, soul and all, which has potentially disastrous effects on the spiritual balance of the worlds. The effects of other spiritual powers on Hollows, such as those of Orihime Inoue or Yasutora Sado, are unknown, partly due to the fact that such occurrences are rare.

Menos Classification
Though most Hollows are simply transformed Human souls, a sub-group of Hollows known as Menos (メノス,menosu; Spanish for "Minus" or "Less"), exist. Menos are conglomerations of hundreds of normal Hollows, resulting in a single composite entity of far greater strength than any normal Hollow.
Menos are created when the void within an ordinary Hollow's heart becomes so substantial that Human souls are incapable of sustaining it, at which point it begins devouring fellow Hollows. These cannibal Hollows are attracted to one another, and a mass inter-devouring follows, resulting in a Gillian. Following this transformation, the Gillian can evolve twice more, first into an Adjuchas and finally into a Vasto Lorde, provided certain conditions are met. Menos evolution is not only contingent upon the Menos eating other Hollows, but also upon the Menos' ability to avoid being eaten. If another Hollow succeeds in devouring even a part of their body, evolution becomes impossible for the one which was wounded this way. Menos-class Hollows are considered so dangerous that Soul Society sends only highly trained Shinigami teams to handle them. These incursions seem to be rare, however, as Menos rarely leave Hueco Mundo unless attracted by large sources of spiritual power or encouraged to by other forces. There are three categories of Menos, the first is Gillian, the second Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde.

Gillian

Gillian (最下大虚 (ギリアン), girian; Japanese for "Lowest Great Hollow"), also called Menos Grande (大虚 (メノスグランデ), menosu gurande; Spanish for "Less Big" or "Big Minus", Japanese for "Great Hollow") are the first and weakest of all Menos. In human terms they would be considered foot soldiers. There are many of them and they all look alike. In Soul Society, they are the "Menos" that are generally referred to in textbooks. Gillians are huge, but they are slow and have beast-like intellect. Any Captain would be able to destroy them with ease.[10] Up to the point whenRukia Kuchiki meets Ichigo Kurosaki, she has only seen them in such textbooks, despite having been a Shinigami for many years. Gillains commonly attack in a group and one is powerful enough to be a challenge for a Lieutenant of the Gotei 13. Gillians typically arrive in the Human World through the use of spatial distortions called Kūmon (空門, lit. "Air Gate").
  • Appearance: Gillians are huge monster Hollows towering at least 2-6 stories tall, easily dwarfing even the largest standard Hollow. They all have a white mask with an elongated nose. Their bodies are covered from theirs head to their feet with a black covering reminiscent of a cloak. Around their neck is a row of thin white spikes. They have large, pointed feet wrapped in white bandages. They have large white hands with long, sharp, white nails, but they are commonly hidden within their cloak, rarely revealed even in combat. They also have long tongues capable of breaking a fellow Hollow's mask.
  • Evolution: Though Gillians usually have no personality to speak of, which makes them dangerous since they have no mind of their own, one of the many Hollows that comprise it might gain control over the newly formed entity, reflected in the unique mask it wears in comparison to a normal Gillian. Only these Gillian variants have the potential to evolve into Adjuchas-class Menos. The evolution is facilitated by the continued cannibalization of fellow Hollows, even other Gillians.
Aaroniero Arruruerie is the only originally Gillian-class Menos to have achieved the rank of Espada after his Arrancarification.

Adjuchas

Adjuchas (中級大虚 (アジューカス), ajūkasu; Japanese for "Intermediate Great Hollow") are the second classification of Menos. They are smaller than Gillians and far fewer in number. However, they're much smarter and stronger than Gillians. They're often the ones who lead Gillians into battle. Adjuchas are commonly solitary creatures rarely joining into groups. They are powerful enough to challenge a captain of the Gotei 13.
  • Appearance: Adjuchas can vary radically in appearance; anywhere from bulky humanoids to the jaguar-like form of pre-Arrancar Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez.
  • Signature Skills: Cero, Garganta, Unique Individual Powers & Abilities
  • Evolution: Adjuchas-class Menos are much smaller in population compared to the Gillian class, due to the rarity of any one Hollow being capable of overwhelming the many other Hollows that comprise the body of a Gillian. Furthermore, the Adjuchas must continue to devour Hollows, or its mind will be absorbed by the other Hollows comprising its form and it will revert back into a Gillian. The subsequent lack of an individual will also preclude the reverted Gillian from becoming an Adjuchas again. Also, if any part of an Adjucha is devoured, they permanently cease evolving and possibly stop them from regressing into a Gillian, as the Adjuchas in Grimmjow's group asked him to eat them so they would not regress.

Vasto Lorde

Vasto Lorde (最上大虚 (ヴァストローデ), vasuto rōde; Japanese for "Highest Great Hollow") are the third classification of Menos and the highest level of evolution. They are extremely small Hollows, roughly the same size as humans and are extremely rare in number. It is said that you could count their entire number within Hueco Mundo with only the fingers of your hand. The Vasto Lordes' combat capabilities are above that of the captains of the Gotei 13.
  • Appearance: Unknown.
  • Signature Skills: Unknown.
Apart from the need to cannibalize even more Hollows, any special requirements for the creation of a Vasto Lorde are unknown.
Tōshirō Hitsugaya states that if Sōsuke Aizen has more than ten Arrancar at Vasto Lorde level, Soul Society would be doomed. Of the Espada, Harribel has been confirmed to being a Vasto Lorde at the time of her recruitment.
 Powers

Like Shinigami, Hollows have a multitude of combat skills and abilities, most of which are usually unique to specific Hollows. The more powerful Hollows, however, have access to a range similar techniques of greater power or use than their own unique skills. Hollows usually acquire energy to power their abilities by devouring souls, but smaller ones can also ingest energy from the atmosphere when in realms with high concentration of spiritual energy, such as Hueco Mundo.
  • Soul-Body Separation: Two middle class Hollow, Shrieker and Acidwire, have been shown using this ability.. This technique allows a Hollow to forcibly extract a living spirit from his/her body. It is usually not used because Hollows tend to go after Pluses, who have no physical or living body to speak of. Acidwire used this on his younger sister, Orihime, so she could see and converse with him. Shrieker used it for more sinister means, causing the young boy Yūichi Shibata to be trapped within the body of a parakeet for three months while the Hollow chases him. The soul is still attached by the Chain of Fate and can be saved, but if it is broken (in Yūichi's case) then the soul can prevent the Encroachment so long as he/she is placed inside a soulless body or animal.
  • Acidic Touch: Many Hollows, like Shrieker and Acidwire, have displayed this ability, although Rukia implies that all Hollows possess this power. When a Hollow grabs a Human with their hands, the spot where the person was grabbed is shown to get burned as if acid were poured onto it. This was shown when Orihime was grabbed in the leg, and on the wound on Chad's back. These wounds seem to allow the Hollow's reiatsu to seep into the person, causing great pain to the victim. The wounds can heal if given enough time though, and it is unknown if this ability works on Shinigami or other spiritually powerful beings.
  • Cero (虚閃 (セロ), sero; Spanish for "Zero", Japanese for "Hollow Flash", 'Doom Blast' in the Viz translation) is a highly powerful and relatively swift energy blast that can be fired from various body parts, such as mouth, tongue, hand or fingers. Only Menos, Arrancar, and Visored have so far been shown to use Cero attacks, and it appears that stronger entities can use it more efficiently and forcefully. Cero also requires some time to be used effectively, so the enemy must be either not moving or busy with something else, or too badly wounded to even simply dodge it, with the exception of a few Cero techniques and users. Additionally, there exists quite a number of variations of Cero, which are usually unique to the Arrancar using it.
  • Garganta (黒腔 (ガルガンタ), garuganta; Spanish for "Throat", Japanese for "Black Cavity") is how Hollows and Arrancar move to and from Hueco Mundo. Kaname Tōsen, Kisuke Urahara and recently Mayuri Kurotsuchi have also demonstrated the ability to use the technique. It literally tears open the dimensional fabric separating the worlds, revealing a tunnel of whirling, torrential energy that must be focused and solidified to create a discernible pathway.
  • Negación (反膜 (ネガシオン), negashion; Spanish for "Negation", Japanese for "Counter-Membrane") fields are used to rescue fellow Hollows. Only the Gillian-class Menos have shown the ability to use it. Espadahave a special cube-shaped device called Caja Negación (反膜の匪 (カハ・ネガシオン), kaha negashion; Spanish for "Negation Box", Japanese for "Anti-Membrane of Negation") (Caja de Negación in the English dub) meant to simulate Negación fields, which are used to trap and punish their subordinates if necessary.
  • High-Speed Regeneration (超速再生, Chōsoku Saisei; lit. "Ultra-Fast Regeneration") is the ability that allows a Hollow to heal most injuries very quickly, with the exception of the destruction of the head or vital organs. Ulquiorra states that most Arrancar gave up Regeneration for far greater strength.

Anime Cosplaying

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for "costume play", is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan, but recent trends have included American cartoons and Sci-Fi. Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa.
Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centered around role play. A broader use of the term cosplayapplies it to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.
The term cosplay is a portmanteau of the English words costume play. The term was coined by Nobuyuki Takahashi of the Japanese studio Studio Hard while attending the 1984 Los Angeles Science FictionWorldcon.[3] He was impressed by the hall and the costumed fans and reported on both in Japanese science fiction magazines. The coinage reflects a common Japanese method of abbreviation in which the first twomoras of a pair of words are used to form an independent compound. Costume becomes kosu (コス), andplay becomes pure (プレ).

Lolita fashion

Lolita fashion
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita_Fashion

Lolita fashion (ロリータ・ファッション Rorīta fasshon or Elega-torian in english?) is a fashion subculture originating in Japan that is Based on Victorian clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period. The Lolita look is primarily one of modesty with a focus on quality in both material and manufacture of garments. The silhouette is of a knee length skirt or dress with a 'cupcake' shape assisted by petticoats. Blouses, knee high socks or stockings and headdresses are also worn. Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has a subculture that is present in many parts of the world.
A Kuro Lolita in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Although the origin of Lolita fashion is unclear, it is likely the movement started in the late 1970s when famous labels including Pink House, Milk and Pretty (later known as Angelic Pretty) began selling clothes that would be considered "Lolita" by today's standards. Shortly after that cameBaby, The Stars Shine Bright, and Metamorphose temps de fille. In the 1990s, Lolita fashion became better recognized, with bands like Malice Mizer and other Visual Kei (or visual type) bands coming into popularity. These bands wore intricate costumes, which fans began adopting as their own style. The style soon spread from its origins in the Kansai region, and ultimately reached Tokyo where it became popularized throughout Japanese youth culture. Today, Lolita fashion has grown so much in popularity that it can be found even in department stores in Japan.

n Lolita fashion, it is generally accepted that "Lolita" does not refer to Vladimir Nabokov's famous novel. In the context of fashion, the term 'Lolita' does not relate to sex. The usage of the word may also be considered wasei-eigo.
The fashion was thought to have been partly created to react against the growing exposure of the body and skin in today's society, specifically in regard to young women. Adherants fight the current fashion with modesty presenting themselves as "cute" or "elegant" rather than "sexy" . One follower of the Gothic Lolita fashion explained:
We certainly do not do this for the attention of men. Frequently, female sexuality is portrayed in a way that is palatable and accessible to men, and anything outside of that is intimidating. Something so unabashedly female is ultimately kind of scary—in fact, I consider it to be pretty confrontational. Dressing this way takes a certain kind of ownership of one’s own sexuality that wearing expected or regular things just does not. It doesn’t take a lot of moxie to put on a pencil skirt and flats. It’s not, as some commentators have suggested, some sort of appeal to men’s expectation that women should be childlike, or an attempt to pander to pedophiles. Pedophiles like little girls. They don’t like grown women who happen to like dresses with cakes on them. I’ve never been hit on by a pedophile while in Lolita. We don’t get into it because it is some sort of misplaced pedo complex or anything, and the objective isn’t simply to emulate little girls, despite the name Lolita.
Lolita was influenced and popularized by the imagery of more feminine Visual Kei (or "visual art") bands. Visual Kei is a Japanese form of rock music defined by bands featuring performers in elaborate costumes but whose musical style varies. Mana, the cross-dressing former leader and guitarist of the Visual Kei band Malice Mizer is widely credited for having helped popularize Gothic Lolita. He coined the terms "Elegant Gothic Lolita" (EGL) and "Elegant Gothic Aristocrat" (EGA) to describe the style of his own fashion label Moi-même-Moitié, which was founded in 1999 and quickly established itself as one of the most coveted brands of the Lolita scene.

Cosplay restaurants

Cosplay restaurants (コスプレ系飲食店 Kosupure-kei inshokuten?), are theme restaurants and pubs that originated in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan around the year 1999.[citation needed] They include maid cafés (メイドカフェ Meido kafe?) andbutler cafés (執事喫茶 shitsuji kissa?), where the service staff dress as elegantmaids, or as butlers. Such restaurants and cafés have quickly become a staple of Japanese otaku culture. Compared with service at normal cafés, the service at cosplay cafés involves the creation of a rather different atmosphere. The staff treat the customers as masters and mistresses in a private home rather than merely as café customers.
The popularity of the Cosplay restaurants and maid cafes has spread to other regions in Japan, such as Osaka's Den Den Town as well as other countries, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Mexico, Canada, and The Philippines.

Intelligent Device’s

Intelligent Device’s

If you have already watch or just recently watching Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha then, you have already know about the Intelligent Device, this are the weapons used in Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. They were in many form, staff, scythe, sword, hammer, gun, gloves, and knuckles.

Raging Heart / Raising Heart and Bardiche are some example of an Intelligent Device but among other Intelligent Device that was shown in the anime and manga, these two are the only devices I’ve only seen that have major change, (during second season they were upgraded and have the Cartridge System and also they were the only device that change into a spear like staff (Raging Heart / Raising Heart) and a sword (Bardiche)).

The Intelligent were one of the best thing I have seen in the anime of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, that’s why I like watching Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, also the fights were so damn good it was an epic especially Star Light Breaker.

Everything is possible in Anime!

Everything is possible in Anime!

Every otaku have watched different anime, so everyone have notice it. Anime have broken so many law of the real world (especially the laws of science), like in Dragon Ball because of hard training the characters where able to defy gravity and fly into the sky, and other occasion anime character falls in quite a height and it turns out that she/he was alright (sometimes they were only get a minor injury for that, what the heck was that!).

And for other anime, even though the character don’t hold anything on their hands when its time for a little comedy the character was able to get something to smack on the other character, (usually seen in FMP: Fumofu, where Kaname was smacking something on Sagara)., or in the other hand a character was able to gather too much strength because of anger (seen in one of the episode of Kare Kano where Tsubasa was so angry that she was able to kick a car to fly and that was too exaggerated).

There are a lot of laws the anime was breaking but it was okay, without those breaking the rules the anime wouldn’t be fun. Like Akira (character on Special A) said “there was no word impossible in the S.A dictionary”, means nothing is impossible in an anime. (Yeah speaking of Special A, there are a lot of things impossible was done in that anime, like when during a competition between Hikari and Kei in the P.E class they were able to jump so high in a twin tower like hurdle, there was also during the race Kei was able to get out in the hole Akira made with out much effort, also when he climb a mountain like course as if he was running on a plain ground land (does he have chackra on his feet during that time), and lastly he was able to survive without any harm when Akira push the button to cause an explosion to were Kei was.).

Maybe I watch too much anime?

Maybe I watch too much anime?

I was having weird dreams lately, and I was thinking maybe I have watch to much anime, or it just a cause of fatigue and stress for I stay awake for whole nights day after day. Well it just feels too realistic for a dream, feels like the other world from Clannad, as if there is another world beside from us an alternate reality or world from us, with the same people.

My first weird dream ever is that, god suddenly appear in front of us many people gathered around as the clouds up in the sky begins to form into a face of some one, and said that he is god. My second weirdest dream is about an airplane, that was about to take off when it just barely flew from the ground, the airplane suddenly lose control as if I feel all of the emotion of the people inside the airplane. My third weirdest dream I just dream it recently (this day though: 7/12/10), among my other dreams this one feel much more realistic, but the difference is that this dream seems I’m seeing the future, a scary future a day were meteor shower hits the world (the size of the meteor when they hit was big as a computer’s monitor and CPU) and the feeling and the effects every time it hit was seems real the meteor makes small craters.

It was really the weirdest dreams but maybe I’m beginning to use the other parts of my brains unconsciously during sleep the other percent of the brain left unused, like in Night Head Genesis (wow, I am waking up as a psychic?), I wish I’m like Haruhi Suzumiya if I believe that cats can talk they can talk, and if I think that a laser will shot out of a contact lens if you wear it, it fire laser.

But maybe this dream is the cause of my overworking and not enough sleep and I feel so very sleepy early in the morning, I hope I could do my work properly…

Black Technology

Black Technology
is a general term used to describe fictional technology in the Japanese light novel, manga and anime series Full Metal Panic!.[1] Full Metal Panic takes places within a parallel world altered by this so called Black Technology.
Created by unusually gifted human beings collectively called the Whispered,[2] new sources of Black Technology is certain to change the military balance of the world, and is thus heavily sought after by several groups. The origins of Black Technology are a tightly kept secret, thus most of the world is unaware of the difference of Black Technology to that of a conventionally developed one.
Most of the advances of Black Technology seem to be in the fields of Electrical engineering, Computer Science, and Material science.

Advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Artificial Intelligence in the world of Full Metal Panic is far more advanced, powerful, and reliable in comparison to that of existing technologies. The AI has been installed into vehicles such as the Arm Slave, and the TDD-1. The military use of AI computer systems shows a surprising level of maturity of the technology. Curiously, this technology has not been seen in civilian usage at the current time.
Special examples of AI systems have been observed expressing comprehension of concepts such as jokes, and whim. It is unknown if this is programmed response, or actual comprehension by the AI system. Al(AL), the ARX-7 Arbalest AI system is especially notable for its adaptive behavior, molding itself to become closer to its pilot. The relationship between Sosuke Sagara and the AI has been a source of trouble for the pilot, as the AI continues to defy the behavior of conventional AI systems in use. The relationship between the two has been likened to the relation between Sosuke and Kaname Chidori.

Arm Slaves (Armored Mobile Master-Slave System)

Largely humanoid powered suits operating in a semi-master slave set up, it is a military weapons system that revolutionized the meaning of mechanized infantry. They were developed in the early 1980s under the Reagan Administration.[3] The average Arm Slave (or AS for short) is roughly 9-10 meters tall. This places the craft smaller than most mecha in size. [citation needed]
It is one example of the culmination of achievements of many different pieces of black technology.[2] In a way, it can be said that all other black technologies were created in this fictional universe to rationalize the existence of these humanoid combat machines.

ECS (Electronic Conceal System)

A form of active camouflage, an active ECS confers near total concealment from RADAR and related electromagnetic detection. Initial systems are said to have had limited capabilities that only masked millimeter wavelength microwaves and later, infrared signatures. More recent systems are more powerful, and is capable of masking signatures in the visual range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The system works by utilizing a rapidly oscillating laser screen to project some sort of distortion around the concealed object. Specific details are not described, but has shown adaptability to sudden and violent changes in ambient conditions and the ability to see out from within the concealment, making the system suitable for combat deployment. The view from within an ECS field is washed out and tinged in violet and red.
The technology requires a significant power input and significant size, and thus deployment was limited by the power-plant of craft the ECS is to be mounted to. It is assumed that shorter wavelength (such as the visual range) is more complex and requires more power. It is noted that an ECS capable of invisible mode operation (masking visual spectrum signatures) is also capable of operating in a more limited mode, such as only masking its radar signature. Its immense power requirements make the use of the system while making combat maneuvers impossible on Arm Slaves. Human sized ECS units are also not yet possible without a suitable power source and miniaturization.
In the world of Full Metal Panic, the B-2 Bomber was never developed. Instead, the B-1 Bomber was deployed with the ECS. This is designated as the B-1C. This places the development of the ECS after 1975 and before the early 1980s. As such, passive stealth technology is a largely forgotten technology.
The ECS is not impervious. Its weaknesses include its inability to mask UV spectrum emissions. A high output ECS also ionizes the air, emitting ozone. Insects, and birds attracted to insects gather around an active ECS from the UV signature. Dogs have been observed avoiding an active ECS from its ozone smell. Additionally, it is specifically stated that the ECS is useless in rain (presumably interfering with the laser or failing to mask the water accumulating on the hull) . Recent developments in countermeasures include the ECCS (Electronic Conceal Counter System) designed to detect ECS signatures.

EMFC (Electro Magnetic Fluidics Control)

Electromagnetically controlled surface fluid dynamics of the submarine, TDD-1. Acts as secondary propulsion, but is used mainly to reduce surface turbulence and cavitation. The EMFC can propel the TDD-1 in any direction, including a lateral slide, at a maximum speed of 50 knots. This allows the immensely large TDD-1 an agility rivaling, if not superior to that of a Los Angeles class Fast Attack Submarine[citation needed]. At the same time, the EMFC greatly reduces the operating noise of the TDD-1 while allowing it a much higher top speed.

Lambda Driver

Officially called the "false axis repulsive field generator system", the lambda driver is a pure Black Technology device capable of exerting mechanical force against space[4] with no observable physical interaction. False axis refers to the lack of physical interaction, or lack of moment arm in the application of torque. This is in direct violation of Newtonian physics, particularly Newton's Third Law. However recent research showed that this law does not aply to a room that is curved by gravity, therefore using the curving of space as leverage is possible.
A select few Arm Slaves possess the device called the Lambda Driver which can manifest emotional thought patterns into raw and devastating physical power. In Full Metal Panic! (primary series), Sousuke Sagara's ARX-7 "Arbalest" has a Lambda Driver (but due to Sagara's lack of experience, it only served to aid him most minimally and improved as time progressed). All oppositions Sousuke has faced where his enemy has used the Lambda Driver also exhibited great power, especially Gauron on three counts; and were all defeated using Arbalest's Lambda Driver.

Muscle Package

A class of semi-biological EAP (Electro Active Polymers) produced as a low noise and high power source of mechanical motion. They are electrically activated artificial fibers that contract when exposed to an electrical current. (Similar to myomer in the Battletech series of games and novels) Similar technology is currently under research in reality. Black Technology fueled advances in material engineering created the revolutionary advances seen in the Full Metal Panic universe. While the concept and research is not fiction, the efficiency, durability and high power output of the material as demonstrated by the impossible agility and strength of the Arm Slaves in Full Metal Panic is purely fictional.
These artificial muscles are used as primary motivators on the fictional class of humanoid weapon systems called Arm Slaves. The artificial muscles offer the three favorable traits over alternate mechanical or hydraulic systems.
  • Precision control
  • Low noise
  • High mechanical torque
In addition, the Polymers of the Muscle Package have high tensile strength, comparable to aramid fibres. This allows for the third generation Arm Slaves such as the M9 series to carry less armor plating, as the drive systems themselves serve as ballistic protection. These traits have given the third generation Arm Slave high survivability, high maneuverability and low observability.
Earlier forms of the Muscle Packages were underpowered, and required a secondary power system. Second generation Arm Slaves are noted by having a binary drive system, such as the RK-92 "Savage". The Savage operates its hydraulic actuators for high torque, and uses the muscle package for precision operations. The more recent muscle packages have overcome this handicap, removing the need for a heavy and bulky hydraulic system. The most advanced Muscle packages have unreal volumetric efficiency that drastically increases the power to weight ratio of the third generation Arm Slave.
In exchange, the muscle package requires a massive electrical input. Traditional power generation systems such as a gas turbine engine would be required to scale up in size, increasing mass to power a muscle package system. This increased mass would require more powerful Muscle Package in a cyclic process. It is only with the Palladium Reactor that the high power to weight ratio is realized.
The muscle package is also a technology that requires constant maintenance. The polymers that make up the muscle package experience material stress, reducing its efficiency and peak power output every time it contracts. It has been revealed that a muscle package is only capable of 70-80% of its design specifications after 10 combat missions. This aspect coupled with the high cost of the muscle package makes the third generation Arm Slave an extremely expensive weapon to upkeep. The frequency of replacement is determined by the individual organization. Elite organizations such as Mithril, SEALs, and SAS that require 100% power for all its missions will replace the muscle package after every combat operation. Most first world armed forces replace the muscle packages at the manufacturer recommended 10 times. Organizations with a relative lack of funds may only replace it when absolutely necessary. It is noted that the muscle packages that are "tired" still find use as training sets. Under lower power demands (running the systems at 75% power), these muscle packages have a vastly extended lifespan. Many of these used sets also make their way to the black market.
From these reasons, a second generation Arm Slave under conditions where replacement parts are not readily available has several advantages. A "Savage" will degrade in performance far less than a comparable M9 unit away from a supply line. While the "Savage" will slowly lose its fine motor control, its mobility will not be affected, as most of its drive mechanism is hydraulic. The rate of decay of the Muscle Package in a "Savage" is comparatively lower, as fine motor control is not a high power application.

Palladium Reactor

A form of a cold fusion reactor, the Palladium Reactor is an advanced electrical power generator with notable advantages in power output and low noise in addition to its low waste heat. It is called a cold fusion battery by characters, but the distinction between a reactor and battery is uncertain and could be arbitrary.
Its usage has revolutionized two classes of combat vehicles. One is the Arm Slave, and the second is the submarine. The near silent operation of the Palladium reactor enables both types of craft to operate impressive amounts of equipment in a nearly undetectable manner. The power output of a Palladium Reactor is unknown, but is assumed to be slightly lower than a nuclear fission reactor of a similar size. This assumption is made from the number of reactors aboard the Assault Landing Submarine, TDD-1.
The name Palladium likely refers to Palladium hydride a compound put forward as a possible means of creating cold fusion but no results have been yet produced.

Miscellaneous Technologies

Black technology has been applied to various fields, many of them absorbed into general usage. This has created minor differences in the technology present in Full Metal Panic and that of our own world. Material Sciences seems to have gained a moderate boost from black technology.
  • Arm Slave Pilot Suit: The characteristic suits the AS pilots of Mithril wear exhibit excellent ballistic and thermal protection in addition to shock absorbing characteristics.[5] The suit will stop most handgun bullets and conventional blade weaponry.[5] In addition, an egg wrapped in the suit material is said to survive a 10 storey drop. The thermal protection of the suit will insulate the wearer from direct contact with metal heated from 120 to 200 Celsius for a limited time.
  • Gas Turbine Engine: The use of advanced materials in the gas turbine engine has yielded a machine far more efficient and powerful than that of our own. The fuel consumption is comparable to piston diesel engines, making them suitable as main generators in the second generation Arm Slaves. For instance, a C-130 Hercules transport plane is shown operating with turbofan jet engines. The real life turbofan jet engine Hercules did not see mass production being powered by a lower power (more efficient in our world) turboprop engine.
  • Monomolecular Cutters: Advanced materials have created mono-molecular blades, allowing unprecedented sharpness. Many of these weapons are also outfitted with a vibrational system to increase their destructive capability. both of these functions are possible from advances in Black Technology.
