The: When They Cry Series

The: When They Cry Series

The When They Cry Series where popular series of anime: When the Cicadas Cry and When the Seagulls Cry were wonderful anime and manga both in their respective English title name translation it’s hard to remember and spell the Japanese title of this anime (I think they have a game to especially the When the Seagulls Cry), also I’ve seen a trailer of a live action of When the Cicadas Cry, both of the series were good and pretty interesting to watch.

The similarity of the two series is that they where both psychological, thriller, drama-comedy, and kind of supernatural, but the for what I think the selling part of this anime was being a thriller anime, and the way how sometimes the characters kill each other, and also the surprising development in the story.

Some of the things you will see in both series that after an arc story (failure of surviving), another arc in the same time line but somehow different to the story that it followed, they were revolving only in a certain year and event repeatedly as they seek survival. Also there is a girl who is like a grown up version of Rika Furude, she appears in the last episode of the When Cicadas Cry changing Takano Miyo’s fate when she was a child. Also Berkanstel (it was suspected that she too is involved in the other series, as she is the girl who appears to Takano Miyo went she went out to play with her friends changing her tragic fate) “the Witch of Miracle” as she appears in When Seagulls Cry helping Battler to fight in the game of Beatrice “the Golden Witch” but it isn’t clear if she was really helping Battler as an ally or she just want something as a past time.

Black Technology

Black Technology
is a general term used to describe fictional technology in the Japanese light novel, manga and anime series Full Metal Panic!.[1] Full Metal Panic takes places within a parallel world altered by this so called Black Technology.
Created by unusually gifted human beings collectively called the Whispered,[2] new sources of Black Technology is certain to change the military balance of the world, and is thus heavily sought after by several groups. The origins of Black Technology are a tightly kept secret, thus most of the world is unaware of the difference of Black Technology to that of a conventionally developed one.
Most of the advances of Black Technology seem to be in the fields of Electrical engineering, Computer Science, and Material science.

Advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Artificial Intelligence in the world of Full Metal Panic is far more advanced, powerful, and reliable in comparison to that of existing technologies. The AI has been installed into vehicles such as the Arm Slave, and the TDD-1. The military use of AI computer systems shows a surprising level of maturity of the technology. Curiously, this technology has not been seen in civilian usage at the current time.
Special examples of AI systems have been observed expressing comprehension of concepts such as jokes, and whim. It is unknown if this is programmed response, or actual comprehension by the AI system. Al(AL), the ARX-7 Arbalest AI system is especially notable for its adaptive behavior, molding itself to become closer to its pilot. The relationship between Sosuke Sagara and the AI has been a source of trouble for the pilot, as the AI continues to defy the behavior of conventional AI systems in use. The relationship between the two has been likened to the relation between Sosuke and Kaname Chidori.

Arm Slaves (Armored Mobile Master-Slave System)

Largely humanoid powered suits operating in a semi-master slave set up, it is a military weapons system that revolutionized the meaning of mechanized infantry. They were developed in the early 1980s under the Reagan Administration.[3] The average Arm Slave (or AS for short) is roughly 9-10 meters tall. This places the craft smaller than most mecha in size. [citation needed]
It is one example of the culmination of achievements of many different pieces of black technology.[2] In a way, it can be said that all other black technologies were created in this fictional universe to rationalize the existence of these humanoid combat machines.

ECS (Electronic Conceal System)

A form of active camouflage, an active ECS confers near total concealment from RADAR and related electromagnetic detection. Initial systems are said to have had limited capabilities that only masked millimeter wavelength microwaves and later, infrared signatures. More recent systems are more powerful, and is capable of masking signatures in the visual range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The system works by utilizing a rapidly oscillating laser screen to project some sort of distortion around the concealed object. Specific details are not described, but has shown adaptability to sudden and violent changes in ambient conditions and the ability to see out from within the concealment, making the system suitable for combat deployment. The view from within an ECS field is washed out and tinged in violet and red.
The technology requires a significant power input and significant size, and thus deployment was limited by the power-plant of craft the ECS is to be mounted to. It is assumed that shorter wavelength (such as the visual range) is more complex and requires more power. It is noted that an ECS capable of invisible mode operation (masking visual spectrum signatures) is also capable of operating in a more limited mode, such as only masking its radar signature. Its immense power requirements make the use of the system while making combat maneuvers impossible on Arm Slaves. Human sized ECS units are also not yet possible without a suitable power source and miniaturization.
In the world of Full Metal Panic, the B-2 Bomber was never developed. Instead, the B-1 Bomber was deployed with the ECS. This is designated as the B-1C. This places the development of the ECS after 1975 and before the early 1980s. As such, passive stealth technology is a largely forgotten technology.
The ECS is not impervious. Its weaknesses include its inability to mask UV spectrum emissions. A high output ECS also ionizes the air, emitting ozone. Insects, and birds attracted to insects gather around an active ECS from the UV signature. Dogs have been observed avoiding an active ECS from its ozone smell. Additionally, it is specifically stated that the ECS is useless in rain (presumably interfering with the laser or failing to mask the water accumulating on the hull) . Recent developments in countermeasures include the ECCS (Electronic Conceal Counter System) designed to detect ECS signatures.

EMFC (Electro Magnetic Fluidics Control)

Electromagnetically controlled surface fluid dynamics of the submarine, TDD-1. Acts as secondary propulsion, but is used mainly to reduce surface turbulence and cavitation. The EMFC can propel the TDD-1 in any direction, including a lateral slide, at a maximum speed of 50 knots. This allows the immensely large TDD-1 an agility rivaling, if not superior to that of a Los Angeles class Fast Attack Submarine[citation needed]. At the same time, the EMFC greatly reduces the operating noise of the TDD-1 while allowing it a much higher top speed.

Lambda Driver

Officially called the "false axis repulsive field generator system", the lambda driver is a pure Black Technology device capable of exerting mechanical force against space[4] with no observable physical interaction. False axis refers to the lack of physical interaction, or lack of moment arm in the application of torque. This is in direct violation of Newtonian physics, particularly Newton's Third Law. However recent research showed that this law does not aply to a room that is curved by gravity, therefore using the curving of space as leverage is possible.
A select few Arm Slaves possess the device called the Lambda Driver which can manifest emotional thought patterns into raw and devastating physical power. In Full Metal Panic! (primary series), Sousuke Sagara's ARX-7 "Arbalest" has a Lambda Driver (but due to Sagara's lack of experience, it only served to aid him most minimally and improved as time progressed). All oppositions Sousuke has faced where his enemy has used the Lambda Driver also exhibited great power, especially Gauron on three counts; and were all defeated using Arbalest's Lambda Driver.

Muscle Package

A class of semi-biological EAP (Electro Active Polymers) produced as a low noise and high power source of mechanical motion. They are electrically activated artificial fibers that contract when exposed to an electrical current. (Similar to myomer in the Battletech series of games and novels) Similar technology is currently under research in reality. Black Technology fueled advances in material engineering created the revolutionary advances seen in the Full Metal Panic universe. While the concept and research is not fiction, the efficiency, durability and high power output of the material as demonstrated by the impossible agility and strength of the Arm Slaves in Full Metal Panic is purely fictional.
These artificial muscles are used as primary motivators on the fictional class of humanoid weapon systems called Arm Slaves. The artificial muscles offer the three favorable traits over alternate mechanical or hydraulic systems.
  • Precision control
  • Low noise
  • High mechanical torque
In addition, the Polymers of the Muscle Package have high tensile strength, comparable to aramid fibres. This allows for the third generation Arm Slaves such as the M9 series to carry less armor plating, as the drive systems themselves serve as ballistic protection. These traits have given the third generation Arm Slave high survivability, high maneuverability and low observability.
Earlier forms of the Muscle Packages were underpowered, and required a secondary power system. Second generation Arm Slaves are noted by having a binary drive system, such as the RK-92 "Savage". The Savage operates its hydraulic actuators for high torque, and uses the muscle package for precision operations. The more recent muscle packages have overcome this handicap, removing the need for a heavy and bulky hydraulic system. The most advanced Muscle packages have unreal volumetric efficiency that drastically increases the power to weight ratio of the third generation Arm Slave.
In exchange, the muscle package requires a massive electrical input. Traditional power generation systems such as a gas turbine engine would be required to scale up in size, increasing mass to power a muscle package system. This increased mass would require more powerful Muscle Package in a cyclic process. It is only with the Palladium Reactor that the high power to weight ratio is realized.
The muscle package is also a technology that requires constant maintenance. The polymers that make up the muscle package experience material stress, reducing its efficiency and peak power output every time it contracts. It has been revealed that a muscle package is only capable of 70-80% of its design specifications after 10 combat missions. This aspect coupled with the high cost of the muscle package makes the third generation Arm Slave an extremely expensive weapon to upkeep. The frequency of replacement is determined by the individual organization. Elite organizations such as Mithril, SEALs, and SAS that require 100% power for all its missions will replace the muscle package after every combat operation. Most first world armed forces replace the muscle packages at the manufacturer recommended 10 times. Organizations with a relative lack of funds may only replace it when absolutely necessary. It is noted that the muscle packages that are "tired" still find use as training sets. Under lower power demands (running the systems at 75% power), these muscle packages have a vastly extended lifespan. Many of these used sets also make their way to the black market.
From these reasons, a second generation Arm Slave under conditions where replacement parts are not readily available has several advantages. A "Savage" will degrade in performance far less than a comparable M9 unit away from a supply line. While the "Savage" will slowly lose its fine motor control, its mobility will not be affected, as most of its drive mechanism is hydraulic. The rate of decay of the Muscle Package in a "Savage" is comparatively lower, as fine motor control is not a high power application.

Palladium Reactor

A form of a cold fusion reactor, the Palladium Reactor is an advanced electrical power generator with notable advantages in power output and low noise in addition to its low waste heat. It is called a cold fusion battery by characters, but the distinction between a reactor and battery is uncertain and could be arbitrary.
Its usage has revolutionized two classes of combat vehicles. One is the Arm Slave, and the second is the submarine. The near silent operation of the Palladium reactor enables both types of craft to operate impressive amounts of equipment in a nearly undetectable manner. The power output of a Palladium Reactor is unknown, but is assumed to be slightly lower than a nuclear fission reactor of a similar size. This assumption is made from the number of reactors aboard the Assault Landing Submarine, TDD-1.
The name Palladium likely refers to Palladium hydride a compound put forward as a possible means of creating cold fusion but no results have been yet produced.

Miscellaneous Technologies

Black technology has been applied to various fields, many of them absorbed into general usage. This has created minor differences in the technology present in Full Metal Panic and that of our own world. Material Sciences seems to have gained a moderate boost from black technology.
  • Arm Slave Pilot Suit: The characteristic suits the AS pilots of Mithril wear exhibit excellent ballistic and thermal protection in addition to shock absorbing characteristics.[5] The suit will stop most handgun bullets and conventional blade weaponry.[5] In addition, an egg wrapped in the suit material is said to survive a 10 storey drop. The thermal protection of the suit will insulate the wearer from direct contact with metal heated from 120 to 200 Celsius for a limited time.
  • Gas Turbine Engine: The use of advanced materials in the gas turbine engine has yielded a machine far more efficient and powerful than that of our own. The fuel consumption is comparable to piston diesel engines, making them suitable as main generators in the second generation Arm Slaves. For instance, a C-130 Hercules transport plane is shown operating with turbofan jet engines. The real life turbofan jet engine Hercules did not see mass production being powered by a lower power (more efficient in our world) turboprop engine.
  • Monomolecular Cutters: Advanced materials have created mono-molecular blades, allowing unprecedented sharpness. Many of these weapons are also outfitted with a vibrational system to increase their destructive capability. both of these functions are possible from advances in Black Technology.

Whispered

The Whispered are unique individuals in the Full Metal Panic! universe who possess access to Black Technology, technology that outstrips the level of technology that should exist in the world.[1][2]

Abilities of the Whispered

The Whispered are young individuals (16 to 17 years old in the course of the series) who have an innate knowledge of advanced maths, science, engineering, and physics capable of producing machines and devices beyond the scope of present-day human comprehension. This technology is called Black Technology. Their emergence in the mid-1980’s led to the creation of the palladium reactor, ECS (Electronic Conceal System) camouflage, and most importantly, Arm Slave mechs.[3] The devices they created led to an alteration of the world’s timeline and the continuation of the Cold War. Because of the military capabilities of the Whispered, they are sought by any national and multi-national forces aware of their existence. Two non-state extralegal organizations appear to have discovered and acquired the most Whispereds: the Western-leaning Mithril and Communist-allied Amalgam.
Although the possession of even a single Whispered would provide such organizations with increased advancements in military technology, each individual Whispered's abilities are specialized in one area -- while one may possess inherent knowledge in submarine technology, another will be far more knowledgeable with the Lambda Driver.[4] Thus, Whispereds such as Kaname Chidori are acquired and analyzed in order to determine in which area they specialize.
Besides possessing vast stores of incredible knowledge, Whispereds are also capable of telepathic “resonance” with other Whispereds. They can communicate over great distances with one another; a killed Whispered can even resonate with another Whispered for a short period after death.[5] However, a danger lies in this resonance -- if two or more Whispereds resonate too long or too deeply, the individual personalities will merge and become inseparable. (Tessa Testarossa used the metaphor of adding milk to a cup of tea.)[6]
The reason they are called “Whispered” -- or, “those who hear Whispers” -- is that the knowledge is transferred to them in a way that feels like they’re being whispered to from some faraway place by innumerable unidentified voices. Sometimes the Whispers can violently overtake a Whispered and lead to a breakdown. Kaname Chidori experienced such an attack while escaping from Gauron in North Korea (Siberia in the anime), but gained control of her Whispered powers in time to help Sousuke Sagara first utilize a Lambda Driver.[7] The Whispered, Bani Morauta, may have been driven to insanity or depression from the Whispers and committed suicide.[8]
Tessa Testarossa believes Whispereds are “terminals” to the future, receiving Black Technology from an unknown source that desired to alter the history of the world from what it is in our current world, to a world where the Cold War remains and wars between the superpowers are ongoing.[9]

Known Whispered individuals

Kaname Chidori -- Developed the "Fairy's Feather" device that negates a Lambda Driver field. The "keystone" of the Whispereds, the conduit of information from the future to other Whispereds: a "Whispering".
Tessa Testarossa -- Designed the TDD-1 Tuatha De Danaan submarine and its A.I. program, DANA.
Leonard Testarossa -- Developed Lambda Drivers for the Amalgam organization and compact "Alastor" Arm Slaves. Oversaw the development of Amalgam's L.D.-equipped Arm Slaves: Codarl, Behemoth, and his personal Arm Slave, Belial.
Bani Morauta -- A pacifist who developed the Lambda Driver for Mithril and the ARX series of Arm Slaves, specifically the ARX-6 Halberd and the ARX-7 Arbalest. It appears his greatest creation was Al, the A.I. program for the Arbalest and the ARX-8 Laevatein. Apparently committed suicide.
Sarah Miller -- The Whispered rescued by Mithril and Sousuke Sagara at the opening of the series. She built the ARX-8 Laevatein, with the A.I. Al's help, and the Fairy's Feather from design specs provided by Kaname Chidori.
Nami -- A Southeast Asian Whispered girl who fell in love with Sousuke Sagara in the novel Burning One Man Force. Excelled at programming Arm Slave operating systems. She never fully tapped her Whispered capabilities before being killed by the Amalgam agent Kurama, but did resonate with Kaname Chidori after her death.
Sofia -- A "Whisperer" who imparts knowledge to the Whispereds, through Kaname Chidori. She existed in a crystalline form, isolated in a laboratory that was buried in the wreckage of Yamsk 11, until discovered by Kaname Chidori and Tessa Testarossa. Her physical form eroded away as she took over Kaname Chidori's mind.

Bodhisattva Eye (Tokyo Majin)

“The power to save anyone and a power to kill everyone”

In Tokyo Majin there are a lot of different powers, and one of the strongest of them is the Bodhisattva Eye, the power Aoi Misato possessed. The Bodhisattva Eye grants its owner the power to read the dragon stream (and to control it I think?), but one of the uses of the Bodhisattva Eye was to heal people and to revive the dead, but the powers of the Bodhisattva Eye was kind of different from other healing techniques it draws the physical energy of the one the Bodhisattva Eye was healing, rather than sending one’s energy for extracting the bad energy. Also the Bodhisattva Eye can kill people when they draw to much energy of a person and killing them of old age.
That’s why enemies want to get hold of the powers of the Bodhisattva Eye especially Tendo Kozunu, of the Kozunu clan to revive his clan. And also why the Hisui’s clan was tasked to kill the one who possessed the Bodhisattva Eye, because this power is the cause of conflict and also might bring destruction if this power was get into the hands of the enemies.

Bottle Fairy

The Bottle (size) Fairy

I have watch once again the Bottle Fairy its about four fairies that represent the four seasons, Kururu, Chiriri, Hororo, and Sarara, are the four tiny fairy that went to the human world to study and to make their wish comes true of becoming a human, they live in small bottle, they have Sensei-san who teaches them about the world (of course they live into his house), they also play with the neighboring kid, Tama-chan (I think she was an elementary kid) who occasionally the fairies seek for advice or sometimes she just barge into sensei’s house.
The characters at Bottle Fairy were good, and really cute the story is interesting and have humor, even though the anime was only compose of 13 episode and air time each episode in 11-12 minutes, each of the four season (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter) is composed of three episode., episode 13 is an extra episode continuing the event after episode 12 when the fairies wish to become a human, it was hilarious because the four did become a human but they share the same body, and it seems like they have split personality.
It was fun because the fairies tried to learn how human lives and do things they even try it and occasionally because of their naivety of human world they misinterpret everything, and when they ask Tama-chan for advice, she only gives and teach them a only a child knowledge of things (but she really wants to help the fairies though)., and my most favorite character was Hororo(Hororin called by Kururu), she was like a child also like clumsy and a little bit kind of slow (you know she’s like an airhead) but she was cute, I really also like the part when they have poem contest, I like her poem it was good and cute, and during they pretend/playing on going school, her first outfit was a kindergarten uniform, when they were having test she was sleeping but when they take the retest she the only one who didn’t have to take it (cause she have passed the test!).
And during Valentine’s when they were about to give the chocolate they made for sensei (although they fail to give it to him personally because they feel something, its love!), Hororo was the last one to try on giving it to give it to sensei and she came up with a plan “I’ am the chocolate plan” which she ribbon herself, and the other fairies were shock on seeing this and stopped her.

Chrono’s Number

“BLACK CAT’s CHRONO’S NUMBER”

Everyone who watches or read the manga of Black Cat really knows about this group of people work for Chrono’s a powerful underground association of Assassins and each Numbers where given a weapon made of a special alloy or metal called oricalcum which said to be the hardest metal,.
The Chrono’s Number was trained assassins as far as I know them only up to thirteen (XIII) numbers are there (excluding 0/zero) who gives mission to the numbers. The group was pretty strict and does not allow any means of failure on assassination, and defying of orders has a grieve consequences on the numbers part.
And if the number tried to leave or became a traitor for the association, they were hunted down and to be killed (especially the traitors of the organization).  Over all Chrono’s was one of the major holder of power in the anime and manga of Black Cat.

Shinigami no Ballad

Shinigami no Ballad^^

Shinigami no Ballad, is the story of Momo a shinigami with her assistant cat, Daniel. The story revolves around humans that was hearing the sound of bell (the bell means that a Shinigami was near and was about to take a soul), Momo who is a shinigami takes the soul of a departed but Momo was a cry baby, she always cry when she takes the soul of humans, as she grieves for them in their part.

Shinigamin no Ballad was a good anime consisting of I think 6 episode and each episode where good and interesting, they were enjoying to watch. Unlike other anime that shows Shinigami as beings that wears black and sometimes (horrendous) in Shinigami no Ballad, the Shinigam (Momo) wears white as she delivers soul in the after life, she looks rather an angel than a shinigami.

How to make saber Lily costume!

How to Make a Saber Lily costume

(Author of this blog note: this instruction are not mine I just saw this in the internet and I find it interesting enough to post it in my blog so I really thank: phoenixqueen)

I loved the design of this character when I first saw her, and finally made the costume of her to attend anime conventions with.  Saber Lily is an alternate outfit for the character Saber from Fate/Stay Night.  Saber Lily appears in the video game Fate/Unlimited Codes.

This costume took me about 3 months working on and off from July to September, and I spent about $300-$400 on it, including the wig and boots.  Saber Lily taught me several new skills, including sewing, working with Wonderflex (a thermoplastic), woodcarving, wig styling, and spray painting, all of which I learned on the internet from forums and instructional sites such as this one.  Even though you might not want to make a Saber Lily costume, I hope this Instructable can help with other areas of craftmaking!
